Plan a connected material palette, with the layout and fittings resolved for each room.

Build a material palette across the rooms.

A repeated stone can connect a kitchen, pantry and laundry without making every room identical. The slab’s colour and movement can provide continuity while cabinetry, splashback height and edge details respond to each space.

Start with the rooms you want to coordinate and how they will be used. Review the selected stone or manufactured surface against the different applications, finishes and care expectations before deciding to repeat it everywhere.

The photographs in this guide show the Gold Coast Carrara marble project. Cabinetry by Eldhus Modern Cabinetry, stone supplied by Finestone, and stone fabrication and installation by NV Stone.

Kitchen: resolve the main preparation and cooking areas.

Show the island, cooking run, sink, tapware and splashbacks on the drawings. Confirm the exposed edges, seating overhang, fascia depth and any waterfall or curved ends alongside the supporting cabinetry.

The placement of fittings affects how much uninterrupted preparation space remains. Provide the actual appliance, sink and tapware specifications, including any extra filtered-water tap or power penetration.

Pantry: design around the everyday routine.

A pantry or secondary preparation area may accommodate small appliances, a second sink, drinks storage or serving space. Decide which activities belong there before setting out the benchtop and cabinetry.

A secondary work area repeats the rounded edge and stone splashback.

Coordinate the splashback with shelving, power points, taps and equipment. If a rounded corner or repeated edge is part of the design, include it in the drawings and written fabrication scope.

The secondary work area pictured above repeats the project’s stone and rounded detail. It demonstrates visual continuity; the layout for your pantry should be assessed around your own appliances and storage.

Laundry: give the sink and working surface a clear plan.

Confirm the laundry tub, mounting arrangement, tapware and waste specifications. Coordinate these with the cabinetry, washing machine, dryer, service access and the space needed for everyday sorting and folding.

Utility stonework — matching marble around a black sink and tap.

A matching splashback can carry the material up the wall, but its height and extent need to be shown. Mark any ledges, end returns and exposed edges rather than assuming they are included with the benchtop.

This project’s utility stonework shows a coordinated top and splashback around a black sink and tap. For your laundry, confirm the selected material and finish against the intended use and cleaning routine.

Review the slab layout across the full scope.

Once the rooms are defined, the complete set of pieces can be assessed against the selected slabs. Pattern direction, piece dimensions, matching details and joint positions influence how the layout works.

A smaller laundry or pantry top does not automatically fit into the remaining stone from a kitchen slab. Ask for the actual layout to be reviewed, especially where the pattern or finish needs to relate across rooms.

For the fabrication details, read stone benchtop edges, joins and finishes. For pricing scope, see what affects the cost of stone benchtops.

Make the quote clear for each room.

List the stonework by area so dimensions, fittings and details are easy to check. Identify any sizes or selections that remain provisional.

  • Material, selected finish, slab thickness and any batch requirements.
  • Benchtops, fascia, waterfall ends, splashbacks, ledges and returns.
  • Exposed and under-polished edges, curves and profiles.
  • Sink and appliance cut-outs, tap holes and other penetrations.
  • Sink fitting, sealing where required, delivery and installation.
  • Supporting work by others, access and any staged installation requirements.

If you want a fabricated bowl, include its proposed design with the scope. See custom stone sinks and integrated basins.

Coordinate the rooms through templating and installation.

Send the plans, room-by-room scope, selected material or shortlist, and fitting specifications early. Let us know when the cabinetry in each area is expected to be ready and whether installation needs to be staged.

NV Stone templates onsite once the relevant cabinetry is installed, level and appropriately supported. We confirm dimensions and fabrication details, then manufacture and hand-finish the agreed stonework in our Slacks Creek workshop.

We coordinate installation and sealing where required for the selected material and finish. Where included in the quote, sinks are fitted onsite ready for your plumber to connect.

Read our process and craftsmanship and the templating-to-installation timeline guide.

Questions about coordinating several rooms.

Do all the rooms need to use the same material?

No. You can coordinate colour, pattern or edge details while using different products. Review each room’s use, appearance and care requirements before confirming the selections.

Can the pantry and laundry use stone left from the kitchen slabs?

Possibly, but the pieces need to fit the actual slab layout, pattern direction and fabrication requirements. Have the complete scope assessed rather than assuming the remaining material will be suitable.

Should every splashback be the same height?

The height should respond to the design, fittings and adjoining finishes in each area. Show the required height and extent on the elevations so each piece can be quoted and fabricated.

Can the rooms be installed at different times?

Tell us about the proposed stages when requesting the quote. Site readiness, templating, material handling and installation arrangements need to be agreed for the sequence.
