Havana Dolomite:
A Curved Stone Island

Expressive natural stone, rounded ends and a sculptural fascia. A closer look at the details crafted by NV Stone.

Natural movement meets a carefully shaped island.

This Havana Dolomite kitchen island brings a strong stone pattern into a softer, rounded form. Grey, cream and warm gold movement travel across the top and the deep stone fascia, set against white cabinetry and timber flooring.

The wide kitchen view shows how the stone becomes the focal point. A recessed white panel beneath the benchtop gives the composition a lighter centre, while the curved stone ends provide its sculptural outline.

The inner curve is part of the design.

The junction between the stone end and recessed cabinetry deserves the same attention as the outer face. Here, the inner curve turns back towards the white panel, revealing the depth of the stone profile and the relationship between the separate surfaces.

A detail like this needs to be resolved with the cabinetmaker before fabrication. The proposed radius, overhang, fascia and supporting cabinetry all affect how the finished island comes together.

A rounded end reveals the stone from another angle.

Viewed from the end, the island reads as a broad curved stone face. The changing direction of the surface makes the slab’s movement visible from different positions around the kitchen.

Planning the slab layout is central to this result. We consider where the stronger markings will sit, how adjoining pieces relate and where joints need to be placed. Natural variation and fabrication joints remain part of the finished stonework.

Consider the fascia alongside the benchtop.

A deep fascia changes the visual weight of the island. In this closer view, the stone edge stretches across the white cabinetry, bringing the slab pattern down from the horizontal top into the room.

The island fascia carries the stone pattern across the front of the cabinetry.

A deeper-looking edge does not by itself establish the slab thickness or construction method. Those details are confirmed from the fabrication design. For a new project, discuss the desired profile, material, joins and supports together.

From selected slab to finished curve.

For a curved island, we begin with the drawings, selected material and cabinetry details. Slab layout, pattern direction, edges, joints and support arrangements are discussed before the design is released for manufacture.

NV Stone templates onsite, confirming dimensions and fabrication details once the cabinetry is installed, level and appropriately supported. We manufacture and hand-finish the agreed stonework in our Slacks Creek workshop, then coordinate installation and sealing where required for the selected material and finish.

Where a sink is included in the agreed scope, we fit it onsite ready for the plumber to connect. Provide the sink and tapware specifications early so their positions can be coordinated with the stone and cabinetry.

Planning your own dolomite island?

Start with the shape you want and a slab you have seen in person. Compare the stone with the cabinetry, flooring and lighting, and review its care requirements before making a final selection.

Confirm the specific dolomite, finish and intended application with the supplier and fabricator. Follow the care guidance provided at handover, including suitable cleaning products and any sealing requirements. Sealing does not make the surface immune to stains or damage.
