Reimagining a Brisbane Icon: NV Stone’s Bespoke Craftsmanship at the GPO on Ann Street
Brisbane’s iconic GPO on Ann Street has been reimagined into a sophisticated hospitality destination, balancing the building’s rich architectural heritage with a refined, contemporary edge. NV Stone was proud to collaborate on this landmark project, bringing artistry, precision, and innovation to every custom stone element featured throughout the space.
The Hero Stone: Patagonia Quartzite
The centrepiece of the design is the exquisite Patagonia Quartzite — a rare natural stone celebrated for its dynamic veining and soft, romantic palette of blush, ivory, and grey. Combining the luxury of marble with the strength and durability of quartzite, it was the perfect choice for a venue that blends elegance with longevity.
At the heart of the space, a curved backlit splashback formed from a single slab of Pink Patagonia Quartzite creates a stunning visual statement. Sculpted into a butterfly-inspired form, the quartzite’s natural translucency allows light to flow through its layers, illuminating the intricate mineral patterns within. The result is a mesmerising focal point that captures both light and movement — a sculptural expression of craftsmanship and design.
Custom Edge Detailing and Sculptural Craft
Every edge and curve throughout the GPO project was purposefully designed to highlight the natural beauty of the stone. NV Stone crafted a custom edge profile, softening transitions while maintaining precision geometry. The result is a seamless blend of artistry and craftsmanship — tactile, refined, and visually balanced.
The 3D Curved Maitre D Stone Table
One of the project’s most technically ambitious pieces is the 3D curved
Maitre D table, crafted entirely from quartzite. The design called for smooth, continuous curvature — achieved through advanced digital templating and expert hand-finishing. The honed matte surface invites touch, while the flowing form creates a sculptural focal point within the venue’s main space.
The table is more than a functional element; it’s an expression of form meeting material — a celebration of the natural movement within the stone, elevated through craftsmanship.
Vein-Matched Perfection: The Kitchen Bypass
In the kitchen bypass, precision vein-matching showcases NV Stone’s attention to the smallest detail. Each slab and drawer front was carefully aligned to maintain a continuous flow of patterning across the entire unit. The result is a visually uninterrupted surface — a masterclass in stone alignment and fabrication.

Elevate Your Space with Luxury Craftsmanship Introducing our stunning curved bar, a perfect blend of elegance and precision. Crafted with meticulous attention to detail, the bar features a smooth, flowing curvature that draws the eye and defines the space. Along its edges, brass inlays recessed into a rebated detail create a subtle metallic accent, adding depth, warmth, and sophistication to the design. This bespoke piece is more than just a bar—it’s a statement. Ideal for high-end hospitality venues, luxury homes, or feature spaces, it demonstrates the harmony of artful design and expert craftsmanship. This extraordinary project was brought to life through the collaboration of Zero 9 Construction, Space Cube Designs, and stone suppliers Fine Stone and CDK Stone (Gold Coast). Each partner contributed to creating a space where materiality, craftsmanship, and design vision seamlessly unite.
All stone fabrication and installation were proudly completed by NV Stone, delivered on time and on budget, turning every slab of Pink Patagonia Quartzite into sculptural, functional works of art while maintaining project timelines and financial commitments.
